New and Emerging Rural Researchers – Rural Futures

Convenors: Thomas Seale and Dr Aimee Morse (University of Gloucestershire)

This Rural Geography Research Group session, held annually, serves as a vibrant platform for exploring cutting-edge concepts in rural geography and showcasing the endeavors of postgraduate and early-career researchers. Given recent years’ transformative shifts in rural landscapes, our focus aligns with the overarching theme of “Creative Geographies”, transcending the creative dimensions that the countryside can be represented through this medium.

In the evolving narrative of rural dynamics, landscapes have undergone significant transformations in response to global and national shifts. This session aims to unravel how rural areas creatively navigate these changes and how places are or may become sites of creativity, including artwork, writing, architecture, music and dance, to name a few examples. We extend an invitation to delve into the diverse landscape of rural geography, emphasising the use of creative methodologies or geographies in influencing rural spaces. The aim is to stimulate insightful discussions centred around creative rural geographies, thereby fostering a nuanced understanding of the inherent complexities within the rural landscape.

This in-person session will provide a friendly and encouraging forum for researchers to present their ideas and results and discuss them constructively with all attendees.

If you would like to present in this session, please send a title, abstract (max. 250 words), and up to 5 key words, along with your name, institution and email address to Thomas (thomasseale@connect.glos.ac.uk) and Aimee (amorse1@glos.ac.uk) by 12.00pm (noon) GMT on Friday 21st February.
