The Rural Geography Research Group is pleased to invite nominations for its annual Dissertation Prizes, which recognise outstanding undergraduate research in rural geography. A first prize of £75 will be awarded. In addition, two runner-up prizes will be awarded.
Nominated dissertations should be based on original research, demonstrate conceptual and/or methodological sophistication, and engage with the broad range of issues relevant to rural geography. Submissions should be of first-class standard and may address any aspect of rural geography, broadly defined.
Dissertations must be nominated by the student’s department (normally by the Head of Department or a nominated representative). To ensure a manageable review process, only one dissertation per category, per department per academic year may be submitted. Nominating institutions must be based in the United Kingdom.
All nominations should be made with the student’s knowledge and must include a contact email address for the student that will remain valid after completion of their studies. Further details on eligibility, assessment criteria, and the prizes can be found here.
Submission Process: Dissertation nominations should be submitted via the RGS submission form, available HERE.
Deadline: 22 July 2026
For any queries regarding the prizes or the nomination process, please contact Dr Emanuele Amo at ema21@aber.ac.uk
We look forward to receiving nominations that showcase the breadth, originality, and excellence of contemporary rural geography research.
